Course Objectives

There are two main objectives in this course. The first is to provide a sound understanding of how American government functions and how it interacts with American society. The second objective is to provide a comparative perspective on how political culture and institutions vary across countries.

Grading

Midterm exam    : 20%

Final exam           : 30%

Term Paper          : 30%

Quizzes                 : 20%

Course Rules

There will be a quiz each week during the semester (except the midterm week). They will be based on the readings assigned for the day. If you are late or absent and miss the quiz, you cannot take make-ups.

There will be one midterm exams and one final exam. The final exam will be cumulative. If you miss an exam, you need to bring a doctor’s note to take a make-up exam. You will be given detailed information and instructions on the term paper.

If you have any questions regarding your grades, please write them down and submit them to me. I will reconsider your grade after I read your written questions.

I reserve the right to make changes in this syllabus as necessary.
